One of my favourite things about Christmas is the friendliness of it all. For a few short weeks of the year, the hustle and bustle of modern life takes a back seat and people actually make time to see one another, cashing in on promises they’ve made throughout the year and taking time to meet up. For some, these get togethers might involve a night at the pub, or a Christmas boogie, but for others simply popping round to a friends house to deliver a Christmas card and have a natter over a mince pie is all that’s needed to re-connect. Perhaps it’s the northerner in me, but I love hearing a knock at the door and opening it to find friends on the doorstep popping round to say hello on the off chance we’ll be in. It’s for these occasions that I like to have a batch of mince pies at the ready with some nice cups and saucers I can roll out to welcome our guests. This crockery from Denby’s Halo range is sophisticated, timeless and fits the bill perfectly.

Denby is a British brand with all of their pieces designed and crafted here in the UK. I’ve always been a fan of Denby because I find their ceramics high quality and timeless. When I was growing up our neighbour (and Mams best friend) had a set of Denby plates that she would use for special occasions like a Christmas buffet or a summer party. Over time her collection grew to the point that whenever I see the Imperial Blue collection now, it reminds me of Gill and happy childhood memories.
I don’t know if it’s that, or the feel of the smooth ceramics, but there’s something about Denby that makes you feel ‘at home’ and so I feel very happy knowing I have these hand when visitors come knocking at the door.

A Conscious Christmas
This year Denby has launched it’s Conscious Christmas campaign. A campaign focused on the importance of buying things that are built to last. By choosing to buy things that are long lasting and multi-functional, we inevitably reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and this is something I am fully on board with as I try to live more sustainably.
Not only does Denby design pieces that are classic and timeless (Gill has had her plates over 40 years and they are still going strong), but they are also very hard wearing. All Denby ceramics are safe to use in the oven and microwave and come with a 10 year guarantee. This durability means everything can be used for cooking and serving, or indeed anything you need throughout the home (The Studio Grey Milk jug makes an excellent vase for flowers). Denby pottery is also dishwasher safe making it easy to clean and sustainable compared to other plastic options.

Gill received her first set of dinner plates as wedding present 40 years ago and they are as eye catching now as they were then so I these beautiful pieces from the Halo range are going to do the same for me and I’m looking forward to building up my collection.
Denby is a conscious option for your home and would make a beautiful gift this Christmas.

Very interesting post. It reminded me of backhome, where friends and family would show up at the door step with or without occasions. Those occasions were special ones as they were unplanned. I remember my mom talking out her special expensive bone China to entertain them. Halo range looks cute and I am impressed by its warranty..10 years.. It’s pretty much use it the way you like. I never heard about the halo range before but thank you for introducing it to me.

We used to pop into friends places with my parents growing up. Not so practical in London, hah. I’m loving these bowls and jugs, so darn cute.

We’re really trying to focus on higher quality and longer lasting stuff when we shop now too. Denby are one of those classic ranges that are absolutely timeless – and it’s so lovely to have a collection that you build up over time. I really like the design of this Halo range – the colour and pattern are gorgeous!

Such a lovely post! I really associate with what you said about it maybe being the Northerner in you but you love people popping round! Having lived in Lancashire for a few years after only having previously lived in the South – I completely get that!
