I don’t know about you, but I always have pieces in my wardrobe that I save for ‘Sunday Best’… It’s not that I wouldn’t wear them on other days of the week, it’s just that I like to have something special saved for the weekend because those tend to be the days we spend together as a family, heading out on little day trips or more often than not to the pub for a Sunday roast.
Back in the days before maternity leave, I used to be a bit of an ASOS addict, ordering new clothes to suit weekend plans & leaving them to fade away in the back of my wardrobe while I moved onto something else. Since being on maternity leave, I don’t have the money to be so frivolous and so I’ve really had to hone down my spending and invest in key pieces that create an almost capsule wardrobe! Four months ago, the stars aligned & I got picked to be a brand ambassador for Boden clothing. To say I was excited would be an understatement (I squeeled!!). I’ve always loved Boden for their classic designs with a modern twist and so I’ve been using my monthly allowance to invest in key pieces that I know are going to work hard in my wardrobe for months to come.
I thought I’d use this post to share with you some of the pieces I’ve invested in so far. Without planning to, I seem to have picked out a theme of red, white and blue with a bit of leopard print thrown in! Because of that I now have a fun and stylish capsule wardrobe that I can reach to every weekend when I’m looking for an outfit that has a little bit more ooomph than something I’d wear through the week.
My Weekend Staples
Coat
The classic navy trench coat was one of the first things I ordered. When it was first released I was really torn between getting this one or its beige counterpart as I love them both and was bowled over by the fun Union Jack lining. I opted for the navy because I already have a beige trench in a similar style and as soon as it arrived I knew I’d made the right decision. The colour is a really deep rich blue and I always feel great wearing it.
Jumper
Next on the list is the Leah red chunky knit. It’s a beautiful orangey red colour with bell sleeves and a high neck. I’m so glad I invested in this one as I’ve been wearing it with everything! Around Christmas time I teamed it with the black Frome Midi (also Boden) and it was my go to outfit for festive shopping trips. More recently I’ve paired it with grey skinny jeans or my blue Mom jeans from Zara which I LOVE! It’s so versatile and I love the pop of colour.
Skirt
I love this Frome Mini Skirt by Boden, its such a lovely light fabric to wear, we have a couple of weekends away coming up and it will definitely be coming in my suitcase because I know it will travel well. I’ve been teaming it with the Leah chunky knit for a really lovely autumnal feel.
Shirt
I feel like my weekend wardrobe went up a gear once I was able to invest in a silk shirt. The polka dot white shirt was one of Februarys ‘Boden 10’ range – (a capsule collection of 10 iconic pieces specific to the Boden range). I’d been looking for a silk short for a while because I love the way the fabric hangs from the body. As soon as I seen Boden had one in a white polka dot fabric I knew I had to have it . Again I love how versatile it is and i’ve been able to dress it up by teaming it with pleather or navy three quarter length trousers or I’ve worn it underneath the red jumper for a more casual look.
Boots
Yes these are furry leopard print boots with a gold heel… need I say more? I’ve worn them to death over winter because they are so comfortable. They are kind of edging their way back into the box now the warmer weather is coming but I know they will be the first thing I turn to when the seasons change again.
White Trainers
Finally these white leopard print trainers are the things dreams are made of. I don’t think I’ve loved a pair of trainers more since my I bought my first pair of Reeboks back from America back in 1991. Like the Boden brand, they are classic yet quirky and I wear them with everything! Skirts, jeans, dungarees.. if ever we are going somewhere where a heel isn’t appropriate, you can guarantee these will be on my feet and they are so comfy! I just love them.
I couldn’t be happier with all of my choices and am so proud to have been selected as a brand ambassador. I can’t wait to bring you some more of my choices over the next couple of months and really hope that you love them as much as I do.
