love Gin Subscription Box Review | Gin Club | Christmas gift Itea | The Halcyon Years

I magine if you will that it’s a grey, wet Friday afternoon. Your youngest has been up four times in the night working through the latest sleep regression (which isn’t due to hit for another two weeks!) and your oldest has just poured cornflakes all over the floor for the third time that afternoon and is now having a tantrum on the floor because her apple isn’t juicy enough.

It’s been a long week, you’re tired, dishevelled and wondering how feasible it would be to bring ‘bed and bath’ forward to 3pm just so you can get some shut eye!! But wait.. you hear a knock at the door? You go to open it, thinking ‘What now? surely nothing else could go wrong today, but it’s the post lady! She hands you an enticing square box wrapped in plastic. Intrigued you give it a shake! Hang on one cotton picking minute, ‘that sounds like bottles?’…… The penny drops!!! It’s your monthly Gin Subscription box!! Halleluia! Suddenly the evening doesn’t seem so grim… you know as soon as you get the little rapscallions to bed a delicious ice-cold G&T will be yours.. and you only have to make it through the next 4 hours!!

I Love Gin is a monthly Gin Club subscription box delivering two miniature Gins and accompanying tonics direct to your letter box. The idea is that they send miniatures of many different Gins to you, so you get to try them without having to buy full-sized bottles. They also guarantee that a new Gin and Tonic will be featured every month so you won’t be drinking the same mix of G&T all the time. It’s a really great idea for anyone who likes their Gin.

Whats in the Box?

My first box was ‘The Natural Waters’ box. This included a miniature Silent Pool Gin from the Surrey Hills, together with a Connoisseurs Tonic Water and a Slingsby Rhubarb Gin from Yorkshire with an accompanying Rose Lemonade. The box also contained an information card with a history of the months Gins and serving suggestions, such as the most appropriate garnish for each tipple. The box also contained a £5 Gin voucher that can be redeemed against any full size bottle of Gin or other product within the month.

I really enjoyed both Gins. I followed the advice and served the Silent Pool Gin with a touch of orange peel and the Slingsby Gin with some raspberry’s. They were just the right size to feel like a treat whilst sitting back watching X factor with my feet up.

The little information card also has a space at the back to rate each Gin, so you have a record of the ones you particularly enjoyed – which could come in handy at Christmas time when you want to stock up!

Membership

Membership is £14 a month (which includes free delivery) and payments can be paused or cancelled at any time which is handy if you’re ever going on holiday, or simply fancy a change from Gin for a few months.

For that you’ll get the Gin Box containing 4 drinks (2 x miniature Gins and 2 x Tonics), the £5 voucher (which, if you are a Gin lover makes for quite a substantial saving if you use it, as it brings the cost of a box down to just £9) and member perks such as the occasional free gift, competitions and discounts with other companies. You’ll also receive regular emails with cocktail suggestions and an accompanying website with shop, blog and FAQ’s.

Overall Verdict

Overall I really rated the Gin Box and think it would be a great gift for any Gin lover for Christmas (or for yourself as a treat!). I think the anticipation of waiting to see what was going to arrive in the box would be a great novelty for any Gin Lover in the first few months meaning it’s a gift that keeps on giving. I do think you might get a bit ‘Ginned out’ after a couple of months, but that’s why the flexible membership is a really great feature.

The website has Gift Memberships 3, 6 or 12 months which I thought would be perfect for this time of year and there are loads of other cool one-off gift items such as the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ Bauble and Gin Tasting set’ (which includes one new gin for each of the 12 days of Christmas) or a ‘Pink Gin’ selection box which I’d love to sample myself! Many of these gifts are on sale at the moment and I’ve included some of my favourites below:

There are also non alcoholic gin related items such as a Gin Lip Balm, G&T Guide Book and Gin Bag if you have little ones who want to buy a gift but are under 18 years old.

If you’d like to spread the gift of Gin this Christmas then you can shop the site here: I Love Gin.com. Use the code FB10 for a 10% discount off your first box.

By way of providing full disclosure, I haven’t been paid for this review, but as Member I get to take part in the Refer a Friend scheme. This means that for everyone that signs up using my link, I get £5 off Gin (winner winner!!). This is a feature open to all Members and so could be available to you too.

I really hope you found this post useful and a great gift idea for Christmas. If you’d like to read more ideas like this, please let me know in the comments below…

Happy Gin Shopping xx
