Letters to Ettie {17 Months}

Girl in pink bedroom peeking out from behind white tipi giggling

Hello my gorgeous girl

The time is here again for me to write to you your monthly letter and what a month it’s been. I know I say the same each time – that I can’t believe how much you have developed and grown, but honestly it’s the truth, you are growing and transforming into a fun loving, sassy, independent little girl right before my very eyes! Sometimes I swear you’ve grown a couple of inches through the day when I collect you from nursery… and you have four new teeth! Including two big molars at the back.

When I look back at last month’s letter, at how I was shocked by the number of words you’d been picking up, it seems small fry compared to this month! This month your vocabulary has expanded to the point you can pretty much imitate everything we say – although you do struggle with your cousin M’s name. You can make the noises for a sheep, cow, duck, lion and a Dinosaur- and even make a squeaking noise for our friend Tommy who we call Tommy Pterodactyl! This month you’ve also discovered cartoons and absolutely love Postman Pat (or Pattt which you say with a pronounced T), Teletubbies (Lala) and Ra Ra Lion (Raaaah). Its often the first thing you ask for in the mornings and sometimes Daddy lets you watch one on the Ipad at breakfast!

You absolutely love your cousins and shout for J and Nanny all the time. It’s the cutest thing and makes me so happy you have cousin to play with who is the same age. It reminds me how close I was to my cousin when I was little and I hope you have as much fun growing up as we did!

This month you’ve developed so much Sass!!! Its hilarious!! If you don’t want to do something you say a big strong ‘No Mummy!!’ Then saunter away from us with your head down, looking up from the corner of your eye. Your cheeky smile contorted into the dinkiest little pout. You have us in fits of giggles! Sometimes when you’re really angry you squeal out loud and shake your little fits! It’s honestly the funniest thing! All we have to do is look at you with a stern glare and you quickly giggle back at us, knowing full well you’ve been a little tinker. You have such a happy, care free personality, we really miss you when you go to bed!!

Bed times are still the same, I jump into your cot and read you a story while you have your bottle, then you say ‘All gone!’ and hand it over to me. Bottle disposed of, you snuggle in under my arm and your little hand reaches out in search of my cheek so you can hold it as you fall asleep. It’s the loveliest part of my day and I hope you will hold onto my cheek forever. Sometimes I think it might be the sound of my heart that lulls you off to sleep because I feel it beating so loudly next to you. I feel so lucky to be your Mummy.

You had your first sickness bug this month and woke up in the middle of the night after being sick on the pillow next to my head. It didn’t seem to bother you, you just patted me on the head and said ‘Mammy’ in order to wake me up, but I was so shocked I gave you extra cuddles to make you feel better. Because you were poorly I was able to take a few days off work and we had such a lovely time together. Four days in a row of cuddling, chatting and giggling just like old times. We went to the garden centre to see the talking reindeers and had great fun at the farm where you played on the trampolines and tractors with E. I think you loved spending time with mummy too because whenever we sat down, you wanted to sit on my knee and wrap your little arms around my neck. I know you have fun at nursery but it hurts my heart when I have to go to work every day, so being able to spend time with you was the best thing ever (and you weren’t too poorly which was good!).

Granny has been down to visit twice this month and we’ve had lots of fun, like running around the woods on Halloween in your little witches outfit. Every morning you run into her room and shout ‘Gran Gran’. You’ve learned how to shout to make yourself heard and your little voice is so adorable. If Daddy is making breakfast when you wake up, you shout ‘Dadddddddieeeeeee’ down the stairs to him and he shouts back up ‘Hello Ett Bot!!! You’ve even started telling us when you need your nappy changed and say ‘Daddy Bum Bum’. It’s the cutest thing. If you’ve done a poo poo, you say ‘Stiiiinnks’ and screw your little face up into a little ball. It’s so funny but I always have to tell you it doesn’t stick because to Mummy you always smell like roses <3.

I love you more than anything, my wonderful, intelligent and all round awesome little person. My heart beats to make you happy and I will always be there for you when you need me.

Your Mummy (or Maaammmmmmmmmy as you would say!) xxxx

    My son is also 17 months. Just this morning when I came down the stairs & into the kitchen he was standing there waiting for his mum to finish making his breakfast, I thought out loud “You’ve grown since yesterday”. They’re growing too quickly. 🙂

    Lovely and how clever of you to catch it all on your blog. Brought back some memories of mine and smiled a little as last week I acquired a 17 year old and not quite sure where the years went.

      Yes I was so shocked! She wasn’t even a sicky baby when she was little so it really was the first time. She’s s tough little cookie though 😊 xz

    Such a lovely post! My youngest is 13 months and I’m constantly feeling a mixture of joy and terror as she grows – I know she’s my last baby, and looking how quickly my other two have grown I’m all too aware of how fleeting this bit is!…I feel a bit teary now! #coolmumclub

    I love these letters and wish I had written something similar to my girls as they will be something lovely to look back in the years to come, especially when they are at an age where they develop so much. Thanks for sharing this with us at #thursdayteam and congratulations as this was one of my favourite posts from last week xx
