1. Go forth with Green

A quick scour of Pinterest shows clearly that green is the colour of choice for 2017/18. Interiors trends appear to be moving away from the abundance of greys and blues that have been popular over recent years and edging towards more botanical tones such as sage and hunter green. In fact the Pantone Colour Institute named Greenery, ‘a fresh zesty green’ as colour of the year for 2017. Darker greens seem to be more on trend for interior accents and there are a number of statement pieces available out there, however softer shades such as sage and teal are a great way to introduce the colour if you’d prefer to keep your room a little lighter. Break the look up by using prints and patterns in contrasting shades to add a little interest.
2. Cushions and Throws

Blankets and cushions are a must have in any hygge home. Swapping lighter coloured cushions for those with a deeper hue can really transform a room. I found these beautiful velvet cushions in H&M, Next and Marks and Spencer. They are a perfect way to add a touch of sumptuous elegance to your home, whilst maintaining a cosy vibe. If you don’t want to go all out with the deeper hues, you can mix things up a bit with some natural shades too. This season velvet is appearing in a whole host of shades from bold jewel tones such as emerald to fresh blush and duck egg blue.
3. Brass is the new Copper

Metal features heavily in interiors styling for AW17, but rooms appear to be taking on a more regal air with brass and gold replacing copper as the hottest metal on the block. Introducing gold is the perfect way to add a bit of elegant warmth to your interiors. You can embrace the trend subtly, opting for furniture which incorporates gold overtly, or create more of a statement by adding bold brass accessories. The high street is awash with amazing gold trinkets, I’ve included some of my favourites below.
4. Texture

Having a hygge home is not just about the way things look, it’s just as much about the way they feel. Never underestimate the depth woven textiles and natural fabrics can bring to a room, especially during the winter months. A macrame hanging will add a focal point to a wall, while plants in wicker baskets create a homely, earthy vibe. This trend is all about natural elements being used together. Try to work with a combination of textures off-setting any rough materials with softer items such as velvet cushions and smooth metal planters.
5. Lighting

Light is of course the key element of any hygge home as it is the easiest way to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. Danes absolutely love candles, without candles there’d be no hygge! But if you have pets and/or small children and don’t fancy running the risk of burning your house down, festoon lights and fairy lights are the next best thing. Table lamps are also perfect for creating smaller pools of soothing light, perfect for reading or simply lounging around.
So there you have it, my five tips for creating a cosy hygge home this winter. I hope you found them useful. If you enjoyed this post and would like to see more interiors insights please let me know in the comments below.
